The content of chlorine in industrial waste liquid is determined by fully automatic potentiometric titration

I. Preface

In industrial production, due to production requirements, it is inevitable to introduce a large amount of chlorine-containing organic and inorganic compounds. Excessive chlorine content can cause damage to instruments and affect the efficiency of biological sewage treatment. Therefore, after the sewage treatment, there should be strict requirements for the chloride ion content in the waste liquid. This method uses fully automatic potentiometric titration to determine the chlorine content in waste liquid. It has good repeatability and obvious jumps, and can accurately measure the chlorine content.

Ii. Instruments and Reagents

2.1 Instruments

JH-T6 fully automatic potentiometric titrator, silver ion selective electrode, analytical balance, etc

2.2. Reagents

Nitric acid (25%), silver nitrate standard titrant (0.1mol/L).

Iii. Experimental Methods

3.1 Sample testing

3.1.1 Sample pretreatment

As the sample contains both organic and inorganic chlorine components, all the organic chlorine needs to be converted into inorganic chlorine and then determined uniformly. The treatment method is the oxygen combustion method, which converts the organic chlorine in the sample into inorganic chlorine through combustion and finally absorbs it with sodium hydroxide solution.

3.1.2 Determination of chloride ions

Accurately weigh 1.00g of the sample into a 100ml titration cup, add 50ml of first-grade water and 3ml (25%) nitric acid solution, stir evenly, titrate with 0.1mol/L silver nitrate to the endpoint, and record the consumed volume. At the same time, conduct blank experiments. The parameters of the titrator are set as shown in Table 1

Table 1 Titration Parameter Settings

4.2. Conclusion

After converting organic chlorine into inorganic chlorine, the JH-T6 fully automatic potentiometric titrator can be used to quickly and accurately determine its content. It is one of the simple and feasible methods for detecting chlorine ions in waste liquid and sewage.
